Occupational, Health and Safety Specialist  

Mission of Position:

This position is primarily responsible for the implementation and monitoring of OHS policies and programs. The SHE Specialist position is also responsible in ensuring complete compliance with applicable occupational health and safety rules and standards and corporate requirements.

• Conduct Safety Inspection of facilities and work areas to identify hazards that would pose risk to people and properties and cause to remove the hazards to prevent accidents
• Prepare submittals and ensure compliance with existing OHS programs
• Conduct regular monitoring and inspection of Medical and Safety equipment including Fire prevention equipment to comply with regulations and ensure implementation of appropriate actions
• Conducts occupational health consultations and analysis of APRI’s workplaces to provide assistance in the identification, control and elimination of occupation safety and health hazards
• Assist in the development and maintenance of OHS training program systems and provides training to new employees in order to on-board new employees in APRI’s SHE culture and management systems
• Implement the use of PPEs by ensuring that all workers wear the appropriate PPEs for a specific job to prevent accidents
• Monitor and audit compliance of Permit to Work (PTW) system by ensuring that PTW Permits are issued by certified personnel after conducting Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment and Control application.
• Conduct safety orientation and induction to all new employees, contractors and visitors before they are allowed to enter the plant sites.
• Conduct audit of Energy Isolation ,Lock?Out Tag-out, Hot Work, confined space entry, excavation, critical lift, etc. to ensure that work is done in a safe and incident-free manner.
• Conduct Work Environment Monitoring (WEM) i.e occupational noise, occupational H2S, illumination and temperature to comply with regulations and for appropriate actions in case of non-compliance to standards

• Strong analytical and planning skills;
• Good communication and presentation skills;
• Excellent problem-solving skills;
• At least 3 years experience in Safety, Health and Environment or related field
• Preferably Electrical or Mechanical Engineering Graduate but not required
• Well versed in the implementation and monitoring of OHS policies and programs
• Above average in Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment and Control, Safety Management
