Software Engineering Head  

• Collaborate with management and other relevant stakeholders to define overall engineering strategy, tech debt remediation and approach to support business/project requirements. Act as a BU IT engineering specialist for the business, contribute to projects, and provide guidance for management and other stakeholders. Develop and enforce engineering management policies, processes, and practices that aligned with Bank's overall standards
• Manage the planning, scheduling and execution of IT engineering work for the BU IT business and oversee all phases of the SDLC to deliver software into production and ensure reliable and performant IT Applications / Systems
• Oversee the technical aspects of designing, building, and running the world-class engineering teams necessary to enable the execution of the bank’s strategy and to compete effectively against local and international competitors.
• Act as a Subject Matter Expert for complex, enterprise, and strategic projects by aligning with latest methodologies to ensure that the project will be delivered based on timeline and requirements.
• Encourage a culture of visibility and openness, brief routinely senior executives and other stakeholders to provide up-to-date information on success, progress, risk, and failure within the Engineering Team so that the Bank can adapt effectively.
• Invest in the careers of the Engineering Team by providing opportunities for growth and advancement (e.g. succession program, training, coaching/mentoring, etc.) and providing understandable goals so that their performance can be measured fairly and reasonably. Recruit, develop, and grow top technical talent through effective mentoring, coaching, succession planning, and retention strategies for key talent in a highly competitive economic environment.

Years of experience: 20+ years of experience in software development and engineering, with several years of experience in a senior management role, with a focus on software development and engineering in a banking environment.

Educational Attainment: A Business Unit Dedicated Engineering Department Head in a bank's technology group would typically have a bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field. An MBA or other advanced degree in management or business administration is also common.

Strong leadership and management skills: The individual in this role should have experience leading teams and managing projects, and be able to effectively communicate their vision to a wide range of stakeholders.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills: The Business Unit Dedicated Engineering Department Head should be able to evaluate complex information and make strategic decisions based on data.

Strong communication skills: The Business Unit Dedicated Engineering Department Head should be able to communicate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders, including senior management, staff, and external partners.

Strong understanding of software development methodologies and best practices, such as Agile, Scrum, and Waterfall. Well-versed in Systems Development Lifecycle (SDLC - design, development, testing, implemenation, and post implementation)

Strong understanding of programming languages and frameworks commonly used in application development, such as Java, .NET, Python, and Ruby on Rails.

Strong understanding of software architecture and design, including microservices and cloud-native architecture
